01 — What it is

The benchmark for cosmetic dentistry.

A porcelain veneer is a thin, lab-crafted shell of high-strength dental porcelain, IPS e.max lithium disilicate or hand-layered feldspathic, bonded to the front of your tooth. It looks, feels, and ages like natural enamel because it shares enamel's optical and mechanical properties. Done well, it is the closest thing to a permanent smile upgrade modern dentistry offers.

Lab-fabricated, on-site

Most clinics ship impressions to a third-party lab and wait two weeks. We fabricate every veneer in our own dental lab, which means our dentist talks to the technician in person, adjustments happen in hours, not days, and there's no shipping delay between try-in and final.

IPS e.max & feldspathic

IPS e.max lithium disilicate is the standard for posterior cosmetic veneers, strong, stain-resistant, lifelike. Feldspathic porcelain is hand-layered for ultra-thin anterior cases where translucency and light-play matter most. We choose between them based on your case, not on cost.

Permanent commitment

Porcelain veneers need a small but real amount of enamel reduction (0.3–0.5mm). That's the trade-off for a 15–20+ year result. If you want a reversible option, see composite, it bonds without enamel removal.

03 — Who it's for

Porcelain is the right call when these matter.

Porcelain wins on durability, look, and stain resistance. If short trip, single-tooth fix, or budget is the priority, see composite instead.

  • You want a 15–20+ year result

Porcelain doesn't yellow, doesn't stain, doesn't lose its polish. Done well, it outlasts every other veneer material on the market.

  • You're a daily coffee drinker

Espresso, red wine, and dark teas slide off porcelain, its glassy surface is non-porous and won't stain the way enamel or composite will.

  • You want the closest thing to natural enamel

Porcelain's translucency and light-play match real teeth. Photographs hold up under macro shots, and that's how most patients judge a result.

  • You're committing to a full smile redesign

Whole-arch veneer treatment is where porcelain's strength shows. Consistent shape, shade, and durability across all the visible teeth.

  • Whitening hasn't worked

Tetracycline staining and fluorosis don't lift with whitening. Porcelain covers them completely, and the new shade stays put.

  • You want a wedding-ready, photo-ready smile

Porcelain photographs better than any other veneer, under flash, in macro, on stage. If your career or upcoming event puts your smile under a camera, this is the call.

06 — Aftercare

Caring for porcelain, your first year and beyond.

Porcelain is forgiving in some ways and demanding in others. Get these six habits right and a $4,980 set comfortably lasts 15+ years.

01

The first 48 hours

Stick to soft foods. Skip biting directly into anything hard, sticky, or crunchy, apples, ice, crusty bread, gum. Cold sensitivity is normal for the first few days; it fades as the bonding fully cures.

02

Daily brushing & flossing

Soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive toothpaste, avoid charcoal and whitening pastes, they scratch the porcelain glaze. Floss once a day; the veneer-to-tooth margin is what keeps moisture and bacteria out.

03

Stains: porcelain wins

Coffee, red wine, dark teas, and tobacco do not stain porcelain, its glassy surface is non-porous. The bonding margin can pick up surface stains, which a routine 6-month cleaning removes completely.

04

Night guard if you grind

Bruxism is the #1 cause of premature porcelain failure. If your dentist sees wear or your partner says you grind, we make a custom night guard before you fly home. Wear it. It's the difference between 12 and 25 years.

05

Cleanings every 6 months

See your local hygienist twice a year, same as before veneers. Tell them you have porcelain so they use a non-abrasive prophy paste. We coordinate with your US dentist if anything looks off at a routine cleaning.

06

If something feels off

Message us on WhatsApp the same day. A loose veneer caught early is a 30-minute re-bond. A loose veneer ignored for two months is a remake. Multi-year warranty covers material defects and bonding failures, including a return flight if needed.

08 — Questions

Porcelain veneer questions, straight answers.

The questions we hear most about porcelain specifically.

How much do porcelain veneers cost in Colombia?

Porcelain veneers at Colombia Care Dental start at $249 per tooth, about 80–90% less than US pricing, where porcelain typically costs $1,800–$3,000 per tooth. A full set of 20 porcelain veneers is around $4,980 in Colombia versus $36,000–$60,000 in the US.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

15–20+ years with good care. Porcelain doesn't yellow, doesn't lose its polish, and resists staining indefinitely. The most common cause of porcelain failure is bruxism (grinding), which a night guard prevents.

Do porcelain veneers stain?

No. Porcelain is glassy and non-porous, coffee, red wine, dark teas, and tobacco roll off. The bonding margin between the veneer and the tooth can pick up surface stains over time, which a routine cleaning every 6 months removes completely.

Will porcelain veneers feel natural?

Yes. IPS e.max and feldspathic porcelain match the optical properties of natural enamel, translucency, light reflection, surface texture. Most patients forget they have veneers within a few weeks. We start every case with digital smile design so you approve shape and shade before any tooth is touched.

Porcelain or composite, which is right for me?

Porcelain is more durable (15–20+ years), more stain-resistant, and feels closer to natural enamel, best for full smile redesigns and long-term results. Composite is faster, cheaper, less invasive, and repairable, best for budget-conscious cases, single-tooth fixes, or as a first step before committing to porcelain.

Are porcelain veneers reversible?

Porcelain veneers require minimal but real enamel reduction, typically 0.3–0.5mm, so they're considered an irreversible commitment to having veneers (or other restorations) on those teeth from then on. If you want a fully reversible option, see composite veneers instead.
