Dr. Sara Pizano Pérez

Dr. Sara trained as a dentist at CES University in Medellín and has nearly ten years of practice behind her. She went on to the specialist programme in Oral Implantology and Reconstructive Dentistry at Fundación Universitaria CIEO (UniCIEO) in Bogotá, awarded in September 2023. Before that she spent seven months on a clinical rotation in Sydney, Australia, focused on implantology, which is also where she completed her English studies.

The reconstructive half of her specialty is what most patients notice: it covers rebuilding a bite on implants, on natural teeth or on a combination of both. That matters most in the larger cases, such as several missing teeth, a failing old bridge, or a full arch on four to six implants, where the implant position decides how good the final teeth can look and how well they chew.

She works from a CBCT scan and plans each surgery in 3D, either as guided surgery or conventionally, depending on the case. She works mainly with BioHorizons and Neodent implant systems. Her published thesis, on the fracture resistance of acrylic full-arch prostheses over laser-sintered cobalt-chromium bars, looked at the same kind of restoration she now builds for patients.

Her training also includes a diploma in aesthetic dentistry from CES University, so she plans the veneer and smile design cases too, with the same approach of checking the bite before anything goes on the teeth.
