1. White Doesn’t Always Mean White
One of the reasons patients want veneers is because they want white teeth, just like celebrities with their gorgeous, megawatt smiles. Certain people can pull off blindingly white teeth. And those who do go for VIP white must get veneers on their top and bottom teeth to make their smile look normal. Most candidates for veneers, however, are better off selecting a shade of white that looks natural – and that may be a less vibrant white than anticipated. 2. Consider Your Bottom Teeth
Patients who are only getting porcelain veneers on their top teeth must also take their bottom teeth into consideration. Will the color of the top veneers be in harmony with your natural bottom teeth? Or will the veneers look obviously fake because they’re so much whiter than your bottom teeth (even with a professional teeth-whitening treatment)? Are you willing to get veneers on both the top and bottom teeth?
3. Look Into Your Own Eyes
Veneers can be too white, making them look unnatural. Your cosmetic dentist will guide you toward the most flattering and appropriate color for you. Just some of the factors that play into veneer color choice are the whites of your eyes, your skin tone, and even your age and gender. There should not be too great of a contrast between your teeth and the rest of your appearance.
4. Take Your Time
Veneers are an investment. Whatever color you select will be the color you have to live with for decades – because that’s how long well-done veneers will last. This isn’t a decision that should be made quickly or lightly. Your cosmetic dentist will understand if you want to go home and think about it or make multiple appointments to discuss the options. The color of your veneers is not a choice you want to make hastily.
5. Consider the Other Characteristics of Your Veneers
It’s not just the veneer shade that influences the final color of your smile makeover. Translucency is a major aspect of the color component – it might even be the most important element. Translucency is what allows your veneers to reflect light and look natural. Translucency and value (the brightness of the veneer) is also affected by the color of your natural teeth below the veneers. Color, translucency, and value must all blend together seamlessly to create a balanced, natural tone.
